MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Things can change fast in Morris County's business landscape, and 2023 was no exception.

In 2024, several new businesses and restaurants are slated to open, and redevelopment projects that could transform the area could see major strides.

But first, several new spots opened up last year that you may not have yet had the chance to check out.

Here's a look at what's opened this past year:

Central Taquería, 61 South St., Morristown

Located on the former site of Pascarella Bros. Sandwich Shoppe, Central Taquería aims to capture the casual and familiar vibe of old-school Mexican taco counters.

Since leaving Mexico, Raul Santoyo has known he wanted to bring some of those flavors and memories to New Jersey. Santoyo, along with his brother Alejandro and business partner Gabriel Galvan, decided to open Central Taquería.

Santoyo told Patch that leaving his 30-year career as an investment banker was the final push he needed to pursue this project.

"I said, 'You know what? I think now is a good time, this is my last shot in life to do what I really want to do.' So I convinced my wife, I quit my job, and then I said, 'I'll just focus on doing this project, and that's what I've been doing, a hundred percent of the time.'" Santoyo said.

The restaurant's featured dish is "Al Pastor," which is pork marinated in spices for 12 hours before being roasted on a vertical spit. According to Santoyo, the pork will be the main attraction in a variety of dishes, including tacos de trompo and quesadillas.

All salsas and tortillas are made from scratch, ensuring freshness for each customer.

Mo’Dough, 262 Main Street, Chatham

If you're looking for something sweet, a doughnut is a must, and if you're looking for something savory, pizza is a New Jersey staple for a reason, and a Chatham restaurant now serves both.

This summer, Mo’Dough opened its doors in Chatham at 262 Main Street, replacing Asahda's Soulfood Restaurant, which closed its doors shortly after opening in 2021.

The new restaurant bills itself as an artisanal dough maker, specializing in classics like doughnuts, pizza, and pasta.

Popular menu items include Cannoli cream doughnuts, peanut butter and jelly doughnuts, chocolate cream and jelly doughnuts, and a variety of pizza combinations.

Eli’s Eatery, 2569 Rt. 10 E., Parsippany

Eli's Eatery provides customers with a one-of-a-kind culinary experience, combining the heritage of Korean cuisine with the sophistication of French cuisine.

The menu includes some Korean classics, such as the rice dish Bibimbap and Kalbijjim, which is made with braised beef short ribs. Their menu also includes some non-traditional items like hamburgers, chicken penne pasta, and a BLT.

The new restaurant is located in the Galleria Mall shopping complex at 2569 NJ-10, Morris Plains. View the full menu.

Enzo Restaurant & Pizzeria, 5 Elm Street, Morristown

Back in March, Enzo Restaurant & Pizzeria opened its doors to the public in its new Morristown location at 5 Elm Street.

The new Morristown eatery is the second official location of Enzo Restaurant & Pizzeria, which originated in Montclair. The family-owned establishment was founded in 2001 by owner Antonio Buono, who immigrated to the United States from Italy and became a baker.

"Our goal is to provide our customers with quality Italian food that is affordable, convenient and made from the best and freshest ingredients available," the company website said.

Despite the fact that the shop specializes in pizza, the full dinner menu includes a variety of authentic appetizers, soups and salads, ensuring that there is something for everyone. A new cheese steak-style pizza, as well as an extensive list of kinds of pasta, seafood and chicken dishes, are among the menu staples.

Sangeetha Veg Restaurant, 1767 NJ-10, Morris Plains

Sangeetha Veg Restaurant opened its doors earlier this year, bringing the authentic flavors of traditional Indian food to the borough. Located at 1767 NJ-10, Morris Plains, the new restaurant is the latest expansion in the chain, which opened over 35 years ago in Chennai, India.

Brothers Padmanabhan and Rajagopal Suresh have been instrumental in developing the brand across India and globally over the last three decades.

Since its inception, Sangeetha has expanded rapidly to more than 50 branches worldwide.

The restaurant uses a traditional cooking method and serves South Indian classics like Channa Bhatura, Steamed Idli, which is a savory rice cake, Barota Kurma, Thayir Vadai, and more.

They also offer a variety of dosas, which are thin pancakes in South Indian cuisine made from a fermented batter of ground black lentils and rice.
